The Patio Garden

The Patio Garden.

It all started with a circle in March 2020. The intention was to create an outdoor space for dining, secluded enough to provide privacy, yet not feel visually or physically confined. Ensuring protection from the wind was also a crucial factor to consider.

The Deck

We found ourselves sitting on the path outside the patio doors on a warm summer evening, as the late summer sun cast its golden rays upon our faces. Inspired by this beautiful setting, I constructed a small deck that seamlessly connected the house to the patio. Elevated to the same height as the kitchen floor, it created a sense of expanded living space, inviting us to enjoy the outdoors.

The deck became a charming extension of our home, with smooth planks leading the way to a comfortable seating area next to the patio doors. Adorned with potted plants a it exudes a vibrant and inviting atmosphere. The small deck is perfect for two people to enjoy after dinner coffee, or cocktail, the deck became a cherished space that allowed us to connect with nature and create lasting memories throughout the year.

The Deck made from composite recycled materials.

Plants

Here is a small selection of the plants in the Patio garden areas. The surface is stone chippings, the Mexican fleabane plant, Erigeron karvinskianus, edges most of the circumference of the circle. Shrubs, some trained on stems provide shelter and privacy are undeplanted with herbaceous perennials and smaller shrubs to provide foliage and flower interest throughout the year.

Our Sanctuary

The growth and transformation of our patio garden over the past three years has truly been a remarkable journey. It’s astonishing how quickly it has matured, becoming a vibrant oasis bursting with life. With a wide variety of plants and flowers adorning every corner, our little haven has become a picturesque retreat that never fails to amaze.

One of the greatest joys of our patio garden is the opportunity it provides for al fresco dining. Whenever the weather permits, we gladly take advantage of this delightful space. There’s something truly special about enjoying a meal outdoors, surrounded by the scent of blooming flowers and the gentle rustle of leaves in the breeze. From lazy breakfasts to summer dinners, our patio garden has become a cherished spot for friends and family alike.

In just three short years, our patio garden has grown into a flourishing sanctuary, offering beauty, serenity, and an idyllic setting for memorable moments. We eagerly look forward to every chance we get to savor the outdoor dining experience it provides.
